Volleyball wraps up spring play with a split

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois volleyball team wrapped up their final tournament of the spring season at home in Davies Gym with a split. The Salukis beat Eastern Illinois in five games (22-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-21, 15-10) before falling to Southeast Missouri State (18-25, 25-22, 24-26, 23-25) in four. Jen Berwanger led the Salukis with 3.67 kills per game on the day. The freshman added 3.22 digs per game, two solo and two block assists. At middle blocker, Marina Medic and Chandra Roberson each averaged 3.11 kills per game, combining for three solo and 13 block assists. Setter Brooklyn Robbins averaged 11.44 assists per game and a team-high four solo and seven block assists. Kristy Elswick, the Saluki libero, averaged 2.56 digs per contest. Overall through the spring season, Medic led the team hitting .307 with 2.74 kills per game. Roberson was .234 through three tournaments with 2.48 kills, while Berwanger hit .228 with 2.61 kills and 3.10 digs per game. Robbins averaged 9.00 assists and Elswick, 3.58 digs through the spring season. The Salukis open the 2008 fall season August 28 at the Niagara University Tournament. |
