Noa Beitler Leads SIU to Second Place Finish at MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships, Men Finish Third

Normal, Ill. - Seniors Jeff Young and Nyles Stuart won individual titles to help SIU to a third place finish at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Illinois State. Young claimed his second 60m-hurdle title lowering his provisional time to 7.80. Stuart won the triple jump with a career best leap of 50-6.75. SIU's 4x400m relay unit of Maurice Moss, Felix Anderson, Emmanuele Parris, and B.J. Davis ran to a second place finish with a time of 3:17.25. Davis and Anderson placed third and fifth in the 400m, respectively. Davis's time of 48.31 was a career best. Anderson ran a 49.66. Three Salukis placed in the 200m. Marvin Primo finished third (21.90), Anderson fifth (22.38), and Davis sixth (22.41). Kevin Mills and Luke Stenberg finished fourth (6.89) and fifth (6.90) in the 60m. SIU picked up sixth place points in the 800m, mile, and 3000m. Orane Morgan ran 1:56.14 in the 800m; Julien Garcia finished the mile in 4:18.27; and Joe Byrne ran a season best 8:31.08 in the 3000m. Northern Iowa won the meet with 116 points. Wichita State was second with 90 and SIU followed with 81 points. Indiana State placed fourth (80), Illinois State fifth (59), Southwest Missouri State sixth (36), and Drake seventh (33). Beitler Named MVP--Junior Noa Beitler captured led SIU women to a second place finish at the MVC championships. SIU, picked fifth in the pre-championship coaches' poll, ended with 103 points. Southwest Missouri State won with 113. Beitler was named MVP Female Athlete of the meet for winning three events, two individual titles and running on the school record breaking 4x400m relay. She defended her mile title running 4:54.18 and picked up a first place in the 800m in a career best time of 2:10.91, .91 off the NCAA provisional qualifying standard. Beitler teamed up with freshman Ty Davis, Marian Appiah-Kubi, and Kelsey Toussaint to break SIU's 4x400m relay record running 3:46.51. Korto Dunbar broke the MVC record and SIU school record in the 60m-hurdles with a time of 8.46. Toussaint ran second in the 60m (7.57) and Dunbar finished sixth (7.65). Toussaint ran a career best in the 200m (25.03) for second. Inna Turevsky was runner-up in the triple jump with a career best 40-7.5. Danielle Lawary was second in the shot put (46-8) while Katy Ritten took fourth (45-7). Marian Appiah-Kubi finished fifth in the 400m (57.20). Davis was fourth in the 800m with a career best 2:13.10. Following SMS and SIU were Indiana State in third (82), Northern Iowa fourth (76), Illinois State fifth (59), Drake sixth (35), Wichita State seventh (18), and Bradley eighth (10).
