In three years at Southern Illinois University, throws coach Kevin Robinson has made a tremendous impact, coaching three men’s and four women’s Missouri Valley Conference champions. Last season Robinson coached Caryn Poliquin of the women’s team to an MVC Outdoor Championship in the hammer throw. Brock Lovelace was a MVC Outdoor Champion in the javelin the previous season under Robinson. Robinson also coached former Saluki and MVC champ Brian Miller to a fifth-place showing in the USA Nationals and a personal-best shot put of 67 feet, five inches, which ranked 15th in the world. Robinson was a two-time All-American at the University of Memphis, was a five-time Conference USA indoor and outdoor champion and two-time champion in the Tigers' former league, the Great Midwest Conference. As a senior, he claimed the league's indoor 35-pound weight throw title and the hammer throw. During his junior campaign, Robinson was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the C-USA indoor championship after winning the weight throw and finishing second in the shot put, both of which were NCAA qualifying marks. His sophomore season, he captured the 35-pound weight throw title at the indoor championship, and as a freshman was named the GMC Indoor Newcomer of the Year after claiming the shot put crown and finishing third in the 35-pound weight throw. Robinson holds four school records and two C-USA marks. Robinson, a native of Perryville, Mo., graduated from the University of Memphis. He and his wife, Dawn, have one son, Sebastian, and reside in Herrin. |
