URBANA, Ill - The Saluki men's golf team, coming off a spring season-best 13-under 851 last week, will travel to the University of Illinois this weekend, April 12-13, for the Fighting Illini Spring Invitational tournament. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, will feature 11-teams, and be held at the par-72, 7,118-yard Stone Creek Golf Course. In addition to SIU and host Illinois, the field will also include Missouri Valley Conference opponents Bradley, Illinois State and Northern Iowa, along with DePaul, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Illinois, IUPUI, Loyola and Western Illinois. The tournament will follow a format of 36 holes beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a final-round 18 holes on Sunday, also starting at 8 a.m. Southern Illinois recorded the third-lowest 54-hole team total in program history last week at the ASU Indian Classic, and junior Todd Obergoenner finished tied for second place overall, and shot the second-lowest three-round total in school history at 12-under 204. This will be the last tournament for the Saluki men's golf team before the season-ending MVC Championship in Davenport, Iowa next week, April 21-22. |
