Men's golf in second after first day of D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate

NORMAL, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University men's golf team fired a 36-hole 12-over-par 572 on Sunday and sits in second place at the 11-team D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at the D.A. Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University in Normal, Ill. SIU outshot five other Missouri Valley Conference teams competing and recorded rounds of 8-over 288 and 4-over 284 to trail the University of Illinois by seven strokes, who shot s 36-hold total of 565. Host school, Illinois State is right behind the Salukis in third at 14-over 574, followed by Northern Iowa (582) and the University of Cincinnati (583) at fourth and fifth place. The Salukis currently have two golfers in the top 15 with sophomore Jordan Cox and junior John Danielson at second and tied for eleventh overall. Cox compiled rounds of 3-under-par 67 and even-par 70 for a total of 3-under 137, while Danielson shot a 3-over 73 and even-par 70 for a 3-over 143. Sophomore Blake Driskell is tied for 24th after shooting a 36-hole 6-over par 146 (75-71), junior Todd Obergoenner is tied for 27th at 7-over 147 (74-73) and senior Matt Ellis is right behind and tied for 32nd at 8-over 148 (74-74). Junior Phillip Collier who is competing as an individual also shot an 8-over 148 (73-75) and is tied for 32nd.
