Men's golf sits in seventh after first day of UT-Arlington Fall Classic

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Southern Illinois University men's golf team is in seventh place out of 15 teams after the first two rounds on Monday of the UT-Arlington Fall Classic at the Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth, Texas. The Salukis started the day strong and were in second place and four strokes off the lead after firing an opening round 2-under-par 286, but dropped back to seventh with a second-round 11-over 299 for a total of 585. Host school, University of Texas-Arlington, leads after 36-holes with rounds of 282 and 275 for a total of 19-under-par 557. California-Poly and Central Oklahoma are tied for second at 1-over-par with totals of 577 each, University of Missouri-Kansas City sits in fourth place at 2-over-par 578 and Central Arkansas is fifth with a 7-over 583. SIU was led by senior captain Matt Ellis, who is tied for sixth place overall. Ellis recorded an opening round 3-under 69 and an even-par 72 in the afternoon for a total score of 141. Junior Todd Obergoenner sits tied for 11th place with rounds of 72 and 71 for a 36-hole total of 1-under 143 and sophomore Jordan Cox is tied for 38th after rounds of 69 and 79 for a 4-over 148. Junior John Danielson is tied for 66th with a 154 and sophomore Blake Driskell is tied for 74th with a 156. The final 18 holes of competition will take place Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the par 72, 7,304 yard, Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth, Texas. TEAM STANDINGS
