PHILADELPHIA, Miss. - Playing in the team's first tournament of the spring season, freshman Blake Driskell and senior Andrew Gwinup led the Southern Illinois University men's golf team with a pair of top-15 finishes as the Salukis finished in a tie for seventh in the Pizza Hut / BellSouth Classic.

Hosted by Jackson State University, the Pizza Hut/BellSouth Classic was a 36-hole tournament that took place at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia, Miss. The par-72 course played at 6,800 yards.

Murray State won the team title in the tournament with a tournament-total 20-over-par 596. SIU finished 36 strokes off the lead, coming in a tie for seventh place with a 56-over 632.

Murray State's Michael Craft won the individual title with a 3-over-par 147.

Leading the way for SIU with a tie for 11th is Driskell, coming in with a 9-over-par 153. The freshman from Cape Girardeau, Mo. set a new personal best with his finish, topping his tie for 15th at the Murray State Invitational.

Coming in one stroke behind Driskell is Gwinup. He posted rounds of 80-74--154 to finish in a tie for 14th.

Following Gwinup is senior Daniel Tomlin in a tie for 32nd. He finished at 15-over-par 159 with rounds of 77-82.

Rounding out scoring for SIU is Mark Schmitz (T50th) with a 22-over-par 166 and Braxton Weaver (T54th) with a 26-over 170.

Also competing in the tournament, but scoring as an individual, is sophomore Todd Obergoenner. He finished 64th with rounds of 87-95--182.

The Saluki men's golf team, now full-swing into its spring schedule, returns to action March 5-6 at the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tenn., hosted by the University of Tennessee at Martin.
