Cross Country men take first, women second at Saluki Invitational

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University men won the 2007 Saluki Invitational today while the women's team finished in second. The womens' team finished just two points behind Southeast Missouri State, with a team score of 41. Kayla Brown of SIU - Edwardsville took home first place in the womens'5K with a time of 18:28.60. SIU's top finisher was A'Seret Dokubo with a time of 18:42.03, which was good enough for third place. Nefeteri Williams finished sixth with a time of 18:55.61. Five more SIU runners finished in the top 25, including Megan Hoelscher (7th, 18:59.36), Emily Toennies (13th, 19:29.47), Ryan Eichelberger (14th, 19:43.19), Amy Phegley (22nd, 20:06.98) and Toni Whitfield (23rd, 20:14.53). Also competing for SIU were Merry Lanker (31st, 20:43.53), Shanna MacLagan (33rd, 20:46.02), Katie Rick (41st, 21:35.85) and Abby May (50th, 23:59.20). The men's team dominated in their win, with all runners finishing in the top 20 and a team score of 23 points. Nick Waninger, a member of the SIU track team who competed unattached, won the men's 8K with a time of 25:13.54. Mohamed Mohamed finished second overall with a time of 25:33.99. Kevin Doran finished just behind Mohamed in third with a time of 25:36.91. Rounding out the top ten for the Salukis were Jason Ordway (5th, 25:55.85), Greg McBride (8th, 26:07.02), Tyler Bradford (9th, 26:10.17) and Kyle Kirchner (10th, 26:12.74). Also competing for the Salukis were Jeff Schirmer (11th, 26:15.61), Jason Brosseau (14th, 26:53.74), Dan Dunbar (16th, 27:07.60) and Mark Bowman (18th, 27:11.31). The Dawgs will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Notre Dame Invitational. Team Scores:
