Southern Illinois finishes atop the MVC and 77th overall in the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup
July 2, 2007 Southern Illinois University finished atop the Missouri Valley Conference and 77th overall among 284 Divsion I schools in the annual United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings. The rankings are based on a mathematical formula that awards points based on a school's conference finish in each sport. Although the Salukis finished second to Wichita State in the MVC's all-sports trophy race, those results did not include Gateway Conference football standings. Southern Illinois finished 10th among non-BCS (Bowl Championship Series) schools and fifth among FCS (Football Championship Subdivsion) schools. The 77th place finish marks a 23-place improvement over last year's #100 finish. |
